How to cook the perfect tapioca

We know you can't get enough of these little chewy ball. Cooking them yourself might be tricky but we've got some tips and tricks for you!

Cooking tapioca the right way

Tapioca is made from tapioca starch so when it comes to cooking them there are a few tips you should keep in mind.

1. Tapioca will dissolve in water unless boiled.

Since tapioca is starch-based, they will dissolve when you soak them in water. This is especially true for good fresh tapioca. So always make sure to only cook tapioca in boiling water.

2. If you want nice and round tapioca, use lots of water.

Tapioca is sticky when wet so you want to make sure that there's lots of water for the tapioca to move around. That way they can stay round and separated!

3. Make sure to stir the tapioca constantly, especially near the end of the cooking process.

It's like cooking pasta, the starch will thicken the water as they cook. If we don't stir the tapioca as we cook, it will run the risk of burning. So make sure to stir, stir and stir!

4. Make what you need and serve immediately for the freshest tapioca.

Tapioca is the most soft and delicious when fresh. With time and cold, tapioca will get harder and chewier. We recommend eating them within 6 hours of cooking.

Now let's get to cooking the tapioca!

What you'll need

For making one serving

1/3 cup of tapioca

2.5 cups of water

1 tbs sugar of your choice (we recommend brown sugar)

How to go about making it?

01
Start by boiling 2.5 cups water in a big pot. If you plan on making multiple servings, make sure to multiply the amount of water.

02
Once the water is boiling, STIR in
the tapioca. It's important to stir and not just pour the tapioca in.

03
Cook the tapioca for 30 mins with medium heat while stirring
constantly. Make sure to scrap the bottom as you stir to prevent the tapioca from sticking to the bottom.

04
After 30 mins, turn heat off and
put lid back on. Let tapioca sit to
steam for 30 mins

05
Drain tapioca and rinse with cold
water until cool.

06
Stir in 1 tbs sugar and 2 tbs water
to cool tapioca. It's now ready to
serve!
